Force Background
Cheshire Constabulary are responsible for the policing of a population of approximately 980,000 across 946 square miles.
This area covers around 3,400 miles of highway and one of the longest stretches of motorway in Britain, including The Thelwall Viaduct
on the M6 which carries around 140,000 vehicles per day.
The Challenge
Cheshire Constabulary needed a full in-vehicle computer to access all the necessary databases but also a system which could allow them
to collect data from incident scenes away from a police car.
The system not only needed to comply with the stringent PITO requirements and fit
into limited space but also it needed to be tough enough to be used outside the vehicle in any weather conditions.
The Solution
JLT fulfilled all of Cheshire Constabulary's requirements with the JLT Field Tablet
PC, its ultra rugged and compact design provides reliable, full pc functionality
both inside and outside of a vehicle allowing officers to access and process information immediately.
JLT worked in partnership with Signals who designed and installed special brackets to complement the Field Tablet PC, while still allowing access to existing hardware in the Force's Vauxhall Astras.

This comprehensive, touch screen solution enables Officers in Cheshire to the Beat Systems software to access and collect data in-vehicle and also outside the vehicle in all weather conditions,
even in bright sunshine and rain.
Cheshire Constabulary's project manager, Inspector Tim Darbyshire commented that the solution offered real time access to data and faster reporting capabilities in a compact tablet PC that fits
well into the vehicles and offers real benefits to users. Its robust design ensures it will survive the harsh conditions police equipment is subject to.
